The thatched roof
Cover-(wheat straw or rye grass)
Initially confined to the wetlands of the valley (Honfleur), it is cut from the waters edge in winter and then dried before being put into bundles. A thick layer of diluted clay caps the top of the roof. Irises and turf are planted on roof tops and on top of dependencies. Rhizomes, the roots that feed the plant, maintain the soil and provide the desired humidity. A steep slope is essential to accelerate the flow of water.
